Holiday Parties and the Executive

During holiday season the office party can become a dangerous zone. Think about it. Many people confuse the word party for something uninhibited and reminiscent of their college fraternity or sororities days. In those days the biggest care was passing a final exam.

Now the stakes are higher. In an office environment, you are constantly evaluated by your coworkers and leaders, especially during an office party. You are judged on the greed factor, did you drink ten cocktails or two? Did you pile food on your plate like the world was coming to an end? Were you inappropriately “communicating” with a colleague? Did you use the fax machine to copy parts of your anatomy and pass it around the party?

I could go on but you get the idea. You parents had the right idea when they told you to be on your best behavior. That is great advice that applies to the office party. You are in a business setting. It is great to be friendly, but don’t cross the line … to foolish.
